An old acquaintance of Benedict’s suggests catching the attention of the Minister of Earth by indulging in the sweetest of sins. The Lady and the Witch is the fourth, sensual continuation of the Night by Gaslight series.

Filled with 10,000 words of action, adventure, and steamy romance, it is meant for mature audiences only.An Excerpt He shot her a look that demanded to know why she wasn’t as upset as he was. “I have the shield and the sword,” she said, exasperated. “What need I fear?”His continued pacing began making her dizzy. “Perhaps someone grabs you on the streets. Perhaps you are taken unawares at the opera or out walking in Hyde Park or at Covent Garden. Perhaps—”“Perhaps you are too worried about me, sir,” she said with a laugh, setting her coffee aside.

“I can summon the weapons to me, though I’ve only just learned how. If I were to be attacked, I could wrap myself in Defender before I was injured.”“Could you?” he asked, drawing to a halt.Reina pursed her lips, not liking where she suspected his thoughts were headed. “I will not practice this with you.”“But you should,” he said, taking a step toward her. “We are faster than you, stronger than you, and much, much more ruthless.”She blew out a gusty sigh. “Benedict—”He lunged. With a shriek, she flung herself from the chair.

Her knees hit the ground with a thud, and pain momentarily stunned her. In that instant, Benedict was on her. His legs bracketed hers, his chest pressed against her back, crushing her bustle between them. One of his arms wrapped around her chest, pinning her arms at her side, and his free hand came around her neck, his nails digging lightly into her skin.

“You’re dead,” he said.Reina huffed. “This is hardly proper, Benedict, I—”His lips brushed over her ear. “The things I want to do to you are hardly proper, my lady. This is sensible. This is self-preservation.” He shifted, going to his knees, and pulled her back with him so that she ended up in his lap. Her bustle made it somewhat awkward, but Benedict didn’t seem to care, and Reina couldn’t bring herself to mind. She gasped his name in shock, unsure if she was aroused or embarrassed, but leaning toward the former. The burgeoning wetness between her legs betrayed her.

“This,” she said, voice strangled, “is not proper, Lord Montenegro. Proper people don’t say things like that.”“I’m not a proper person, my lady. I’m an incubus.” He bit lightly on her neck and she moaned helplessly. “By now, I thought you might have realized that.”
